SunLive – Tauranga Sport Fishing Club continues fundraising

The Tauranga Sport Fishing Club continues its fundraising efforts for a sustainable future, donating over $14,000 in total to two separate charities.

By selling t-shirts and donating a significant percentage of their two biggest annual events, the Fish and Chips Tournament and the Stoney Creek One Base Tournament, the committees were able to raise $8,000 for Our Backyard Trust and 6 $070 for local Hope Homes. charity.

“The core committee wanted to be involved with Our Backyard Trust as they represent a broad vision that fits with the philosophy of the club,” says Fishing Club Director Barry Brown.

Barry says Our Backyard Trust has three pillars, which focus on conservation, wellness and mental health.

“We are a club focused on sustainability, and their focus fits very well with what our club is all about.”

“A percentage of proceeds from our label and our Calcutta outing held earlier this year enabled us to make this donation. It will be used to fund the Ocean Cleanup event taking place on Saturday May 14th and Sunday May 15th. .

“The cleanup event is community driven; we try to involve as many people as possible. It will be used to clean Tauranga’s marinas, beaches and waterways.

Barry says the fish and chips committee chose the Homes of Hope charity because it is a local charity that helps young people.

“The fish and chips committee raised its funds by selling t-shirts and apples. The committee chose them because it is a local charity that receives no government funding. They have a good cause and do a lot of good work in the community.

“Looking at the work that Homes of Hope are doing, the fish and chips committee has been very encouraged to fundraise for them this year.”

“The cleanup project that Our Backyard Trust is organizing this year aims to involve as many people as possible. They will be asking all fishing clubs, diving clubs and surf clubs to attend. It will be a great event and I hope that every year it becomes bigger and bigger.

“We can’t wait to all get out there and take care of our waterways. It’s our way of creating a sustainable future in our backyard.
