DALLAS, January 26, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Sport Fishing Championship (SFC) and CBS Sports have entered into an exclusive agreement to televise all SFC tournaments on CBS Sports Network, beginning with the first regular season event of Grand Isle, Louisiana from April 28-30, 2022.

“We bring our viewers directly into the action and on board with [SFC] competitors”,

The multi-year deal includes two hours of live coverage of the final day’s tournament on CBS Sports Network from all 12 CCC regular season events, including the season-ending championship of Porto Rico. The post-season SFC Champions Cup, to be held in October, will be broadcast in a made-for-TV event.

SFC telecasts will bring viewers high-stakes saltwater tournaments directly from the boats participating in the events up to 200 miles offshore.

“It’s a historic day for the angling championship,” said Marc Neifeld, CEO and Commissioner of the Sport Fishing Championship. “Teaming up with CBS Sports to televise competitive saltwater angling will be the catalyst that elevates the sport to new heights.”

The SFC offers a series of competitions of 12 events that reward a great champion in the sport of deep sea fishing, from April 2022 with the Louisiana Gulf Coast Billfish Classic and continuing to the final leg of the tour at the San Juan International Billfish Tournament in Porto Rico. Teams earn points based on their placement in each qualifying tournament, and receive additional points for each qualifying catch throughout the season. The SFC awards four winners based on results from the 12-tournament regular season, which includes three “fish championship” competitions and a points-based billfish championship.

In addition to two hours of live coverage on the final day of each event, CBS Sports Network will also air 30-minute highlights television programs, bringing fans unprecedented sport fishing content from April through December.

With millions of dollars at stake and mother nature constantly changing the playing field, the intensity, excitement and adrenaline of chasing the biggest fish in the world can be a life-changing experience for captains, anglers and fans.

“The adrenaline and excitement of having a billfish in play is unmatched in sports, and we bring our viewers right into the action and on board with the competitors,” Neifeld said. “Television broadcasts on CBS Sports Network will provide new access to the sport to millions of people across the continent and unparalleled access to championship saltwater fishing.”

SFC coverage on CBS Sports Network will also include live reports from each tournament location and a live studio show showcasing all the action leading up to the final day.
